Cave Basin Trails System

Located north of Vallecito Lake off of CR 501 and FS 2274 in the San Juan National Forest is the Cave Basin Trail. This trail consists of a single track which takes one through pinon-juniper woodland, ponderosa pine forest, and alpine meadows. The last approx. mile is not very visible (need to follow rock cairns) to the cliff edge which overlooks Dollar Lake and Emerald Lake. Also great views of the Needles range.
