A unique experience of contrasts, Ice Cave and Bandera Volcano are located on the Continental Divide amongst twisted, old-growth juniper, fir and ponderosa pine trees. An ancient lava trail leads visitors to Ice Cave, located within a collapsed lava tube where natural layers of ice glisten blue-green and temperatures never exceed 31 degrees F.

Another trail winds around Bandera Volcano to offer viewings of one of America's best examples of volcanic eruption. Located in the heart of El Malpais, the historic Ice Cave Trading Post displays ancient artifacts and contemporary Native American artwork.
