Shiprock Pinnacle

Known as Tse Bit'ta'i, "rock with wings", this land formation is sacred to the Navajo people. The name "Shiprock" or Shiprock Peak or Ship Rock derives from the peak's resemblance to an enormous 19th-century clipper ship. The volcanic formation rises 1,700 feet above the basin floor and can be seen from all four states and up to 100 miles. Because of its religious significance, visitors are not allowed to climb the formation.

The Shiprock Pinnacle is located 7 miles south of the town of Shiprock which is approx. 43 miles west of Aztec.
